FAQs

What does a speech-language pathologist do?

Speech Language Pathologists (S-LP) assess, diagnose, and provide treatment for communication, literacy, and swallowing disorders in children, adults, and seniors.

What can I expect from the first appointment?

  1. Case history: We will ask you to fill out a case history prior to your first session so we can get a complete picture before we begin.

  2. Assessment: If no prior assessments have been completed, we may recommend starting with a speech and/or language assessment. We can accept assessment reports from other practitioners, but depending on the date of completion, re-assessment may be necessary.

  3. Setting goals: Based on the information obtained from the assessment, our observations, and client input, we will work together to select functional, meaningful goals.

  4. Intervention: Many people believe intervention starts and ends with us, but much of what we do will need to be implemented in the home in order for us to achieve optimal results!

How many sessions of speech-language therapy are needed?

The number of sessions required will depend on a variety of factors. The number of sessions and frequency of sessions can be discussed with us once an assessment has been completed. We will also be able to answer more questions we have more information about the level of need!

How do I make a payment?

Our online booking site, Jane, can take online payments. We can additionally accept cash, cheques, or Interac e-transfers. We will provide an invoice that can be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to obtain speech-language therapy?
